Making use of feedback for learning

Throughout this part of the module, we have learned about how to elaborate effective feedback and how to deliver it. Now, it’s the student’s turn to make sense of the comments you have given them, and to plan their next steps to improve. If they don’t do it, feedback will be just information about how they did, and they will not be active learners.

So, how can we guide students to do that?

Make sure everything is connected

There should be an alignment between task goals, lesson goals, feedback and the student’s personal goals.

Reflection activity:

You have now learned about effective feedback and reflected about the feedback you give. Do you think your fellow teachers give effective feedback too?

Ask them:

  • If they give effective feedback
  • How they give effective feedback online

And give them 2 suggestions as for how they could improve.
